Swain Community Hospital, a Duke LifePoint Hospital accredited by The Joint Commission welcomes patients to our restorative care unit. Our environment supports patients transitioning from the hospital to home with one-on-one compassionate skilled care. We care for patients recovering from acute illnesses, orthopaedic procedures, and other conditions requiring transitional care.

A Quiet, Restful Environment and a Caring, Knowledgeable Staff

If you have had a three-night qualifying stay in the hospital then you may be eligible for a stay of up to 20 days paid by Medicare or Medicaid. We also provide these services to private insurance and private pay stays.

Would I benefit from a stay at the Restorative Care Unit?

The restorative care unit at Swain Community Hospital is designed as a short stay unit for those who no longer need acute care but who need a longer supervised stay in order to:

  1. Increase strength and endurance provided by trained professionals in physical, occupational and speech therapies.
  2. Nursing rehabilitation- IV Medications, oxygen therapy and treatments for respiratory problems.
  3. Wound Care- Requiring wound vacs, medication for wound treatment.

Additional Information

  • Patients must meet Medicare and/or Medicaid and/or private insurance skilled level of care requirements
  • Physicians are not required to visit patients daily, however, nursing staff will notify the physician when necessary
  • Average Length of stay is 30 days.
  • Patient's laundry is the responsibility of the family.
  • Patients must have a three-day acute stay to qualify.
