Swain Community Hospital and Harris Regional Hospital to provide free sports physicals to area student athletes

Swain Community Hospital and Harris Regional Hospital have announced the spring sports physicals schedule in which physicians and staff provide free physicals to student athletes from around the region. The sports physicals occur annually and are led by Harris Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine with assistance from several other physicians on the medical staff who volunteer their time to serve student athletes in providing the physicals. The physicals are required yearly by the North Carolina Athletic Association. Last year the physicians and staff provided more than 1,200 free sports physicals.

The schedule is as follows:

  • May 9: Andrews High School 3 to 5 p.m.
  • May 22: Swain County High School 3 to 6 p.m.
  • May 24: Smoky Mountain High School and Jackson County middle schoolers 5 to 9 p.m. at Harris Regional Hospital/West Entrance
  • May 30: Blue Ridge School 3 to 5 p.m.

Physicals for Murphy will be held in July. Physicals for Robbinsville and Rabun Co., Ga. were held over the last few weeks.
