Spiritual Care

Harris Regional / Swain Community Hospital offers spiritual care services to our patients and their families during hospitalization as part of comprehensive care for the whole person.

Chaplain Ron Allen leads the chaplaincy services program which includes 21 volunteer chaplains, most of whom pastor local churches. Our chaplains are trained to respect the religious commitments of our patients and not to impose other beliefs on our patients. For this very special ministry he and the volunteer chaplains are here to offer support, encouragement and a listening ear during your hospital stay.

If you would like to receive a visit from a chaplain while in our care please inform your nurse or the registrar at time of admission. Arrangements can be made for a minister of your faith to visit or the chaplain will be glad to contact your local minister or place of worship.

A chapel is located at both Harris Regional and Swain Community Hospitals, both of which are open 24 hours a day for quiet reflection and prayer. At Harris, the chapel is located on the first floor near the gift shop. At Swain, the chapel is located on the main floor.
